Nīmes - Pont du GardBetween plain and scrubland, Provence and Languedoc, Nīmes, which is the second city in Languedoc Roussillon, has a roman heritage unique in France. This city is largely known for its corridas and its several ferias. It is also Daudet's native city. During the Modern Age Nīmes became a protestant stonghold.
For 2000 years water had moved toward the city from the scrubland, it passed by the pont du Gard. (listed in the Unesco world heritage).
Program:
Departure 9 a.m.
morning: Walk around the old city, classified as historical: Jardins de la Fontaine ( roman temples), Maison carré (3D movie), St Castor cathedral (famous for its roman frieze), discovery of roman arenas (corrida place).
Midday:
possibility to have lunch at the restaurant, tasting the brandade Nīmes' speciality made with fish or escargots (menu for 12 euro).
After lunch: Visit of "Pont du Gard", famous roman aqueduct 300 m long and 50 m tall, listed in the UNESCO world heritage (the second most visited monument in Languedoc region).
Afternoon: Visit and wine tasting "des costičres" in a wine cellar. Degustation of the "caladons de Nīmes" (cookies made with almond, sweet speciality of Nīmes). Animation about Daudet's tales. (He was native of this city).
